We can't always buy spray / chemical free food - especially in Mauritius. On the other hand, we need to do our best to cut back on the toxic burden in our lives.
In fact, here on the island, we're becoming quite famous for the record-breaking amounts of pesticides we use on our veggies.
Not to mention the use of formaldehyde on our fish to keep the flies off and keep it from going off, or the copious amounts of hormones, vaccines and antibiotics in most poultry and meat.
Fortunately the Japanese have come up with a solution that they've been using for years (as have the food industry) to keep food fresh and safe. The Okamizu Food Detoxifier.
And so it's become my favourite kitchen appliance because I know that my food is safe to eat. Quite reassuring. I detoxify all fruit and veggies and meat, as well as pulses, nuts & seeds (after soaking) even rice. Not only are the chemicals removed but also any fungi or mould which contain harmful aflatoxins. You can see the difference in the way it stays fresh .
Monsanto’s Round Up ‘pre-harvest’ spraying guide for conventional farmers recommends that they spray crops just three days prior to harvest – and they don’t just mean on GMO crops. This means you’re likely consuming food which had been drenched in toxic pesticides. Nice thought.
In their words (do they care about us - or that the farmer gets sucked into a system where he can hopefully make ends meet this year, and keep buying their product?. Another post!) “Spraying a RoundUp brand agricultural herbicide allows for uniform crop maturity which gives you the option to straight cut harvest.”
Apart from the normal use on fruit and veggies, their chemical cocktail, containing the recently-declared carcinogenic chemical glyphosate (along with inert ingredients that are also extremely dangerous), is sprayed on your food just before you eat it.
Which Crops do they recommend spraying their toxic mix onto?
Ozone is one substance that quickly, quietly and non-invasively removes these organic compounds and renders them harmless.
The OKAMIZU FOOD DETOXIFIER
Its simple to use and removes all surface as well as systemic (from the inside) chemicals using the most powerful cleansing molecule known, O3, super oxygen or ozone.
Tested and analysed by reputable universities and laboratories:
Decomposition of agricultural chemicals
Elimination of bacteria
Removal of poultry antibiotic
Organic Dye Removal (see photo below)
Oxygen Increase Test
Below is a photo of ordinary beef mince that looked oh so fresh and pink in its package. The foamy, sticky volcanic slick that seeps from this choice mince betrays its contents. Surely a good dose of antibiotics, hormones and what ever else is added to make it look fresh. I've had the same result with fresh pink tuna and steaks.
Doing the same with chemical free chicken, the water remains clear and practically foam free.
There are a few Ozone Machines or Food Detoxifiers being sold here and there but I went for this one because others don't necessarily have the same safety standard in terms of Ozone control (you don't want this stuff leaking out and turning your home into a smog zone).
Since Ozone is such powerful stuff, its also vital that all the bits and pieces making the machine meet quality and safety standards: high grade stainless steel casing, Japan Ozone Chamber and medical grade silicone tube.
Ozone output: up to 250mg/hr
Net weight: 1.2kg
It is easy to use with microprocessor in-built timer
It has 32 uses
You can detoxify up to 10kg of fruits, vegetables or meat at one go.
